# Ezekiel 15:2

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> “Son of man, how does the wood of the vine surpass any other branch among the trees in the forest?

## JW Usage

Ezekiel 15:2 is not a prominent Watchtower proof-text. The verse enters the cross-paganism discussion only because its Hebrew word *zemorah* ("vine branch") is the same word used at Ezekiel 8:17 ("branch to their nose"), which the Watchtower sometimes couples with phallic-cross claims.

## Protestant Usage

Ezekiel 15:2 — "Son of man, what does the wood of the vine become more than any other wood, the vine branch that is among the trees of the forest?" — uses *zemorah* in its plain, unambiguous sense: a vine's branch. No cultic, phallic, or sun-worship connotation. The word is ordinary agricultural vocabulary. Ezekiel 15's comparison is about usefulness: vine-wood has no structural use beyond bearing fruit, which is the prophetic point about unfaithful Jerusalem. Numbers 13:23 uses the same word for the grape-cluster branches Israel's spies brought back from Eshcol. Isaiah 17:10 uses it of agricultural cuttings. The Hebrew lexical evidence across these passages settles the ordinary meaning, and the phallic reading of Ezekiel 8:17 has no linguistic foundation. Useful context when the Watchtower's cross-as-phallic-symbol genealogy comes up.
