Exodus 6:2
2God also told Moses, “I am the LORD.

JW Usage

JWs read as Jehovah himself appearing to the patriarchs as "God Almighty." Since Jesus is Michael the archangel in his pre-human state, not Jehovah, the Old Testament theophanies must be Jehovah directly revealing himself, not a pre-incarnate Christ. Any appearance of God to the patriarchs is therefore Jehovah's presence, not the Son's.

Protestant Usage

creates the logical chain that leads to Christ. God says: "I am Jehovah. I used to appear to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty." So someone was seen as God Almighty in the Old Testament. Then read (NWT): "not that any man has seen the Father, except the one who is from God; this one has seen the Father." And (NWT): "No man has seen God at any time; the only-begotten god who is at the Father's side is the one who has explained him." The Father was never seen. Yet someone identified as God was seen by the patriarchs, by seventy elders (), by Moses at the burning bush, by Jacob wrestling through the night. The only coherent reading is that Old Testament appearances of God were appearances of the pre-incarnate Son — which requires that the Son is not a created archangel but the very God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
