# Ephesians 3:5

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets.

## JW Usage

Ephesians 3:5 — the mystery "has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the spirit" — is taken by JWs as the framework of ongoing prophetic revelation in the organisation, now executed through the faithful and discreet slave and its Governing Body rather than through the first-century apostles and prophets themselves.

## Protestant Usage

Paul names the revelatory channel precisely: "*his holy apostles and prophets*." Not "his apostles and prophets and the generations who come after them." Not "his apostles, prophets, and a future Governing Body." The revelation delivered through the apostolic-prophetic era *is the foundation* (Ephesians 2:20 — "built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone"). A foundation is poured once. The building rises on it; the foundation is not repoured every generation. That is why the New Testament writers treat their message as complete in Christ and committed to the faithful church (Jude 3 — "the faith once for all delivered to the holy ones"). Hebrews 2:3-4 adds the confirmation pattern: the gospel "was first spoken through our Lord, then it was verified for us by those who heard him, while God joined in bearing witness by signs and wonders." The apostles + miracles formed the foundation; the church stands on it by means of the apostolic Scripture. The Governing Body performs no miracles, disclaims inspiration, and arose in 1879 in Pittsburgh — eighteen centuries after the foundation was laid. The claim to continuing revelatory status does not fit the Ephesians 3:5 shape.
