NT Letters
Ephesians 2:18
18For through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

JW Usage

JWs acknowledge that Christ provides access to Jehovah, but the "we both have access" framework is typically narrowed through the two-class filter: the 144,000 enjoy direct access as spiritual sons; the Great Crowd benefits indirectly through association with the organisation and mediated through the anointed remnant. Paul's "we both" is read as Jew-Gentile unity among the anointed rather than universal access for every believer.

Protestant Usage

is one of the sharpest anti-two-class verses in the New Testament. "Through him we both have the approach to the Father by one spirit" — the two are Jew and Gentile from verse 14, broken down into one new man at the cross, and "both" are now reconciled "in one body" with "access" (Greek prosagōgē — the technical term for being ushered into a king's presence) to the Father. The access is direct. It is shared. It is through one Spirit — the Spirit who indwells every believer ( — "if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to him"). And ratifies the mediation: "there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus." Not one God, one mediator, and one organisation-in-between. Every believer enters the Father's presence through the same Jesus by the same Spirit. There is no tiered access, no secondary queue, no Warwick filter. is the priestly right of every Christian — the same right calls "a royal priesthood" and calls "boldness to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus."
