Daniel 7:27

OT Prophets
Daniel 7:27
27Then the sovereignty, dominion, and greatness of the kingdoms under all of heaven will be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will serve and obey Him.’
Read in NWT ↗
JW Usage

Read as the promise that the holy ones — in Watchtower teaching, the 144,000 anointed — will share rulership with Christ in the heavenly Kingdom. The everlasting kingdom and the universal obedience are understood as the outcome of Jehovah's arrangement through his appointed king and his co-rulers.

Protestant Usage

This verse is worth handling carefully rather than pressing hard, because the Aramaic here is genuinely ambiguous and translations divide. The pronoun in the final clause can be read as "his kingdom" or "their kingdom," and the service and obedience rendered may attach to the Most High or to the holy ones who receive the kingdom. The NWT reads it as "their kingdom"; the King James reads "his." Do not build an argument on a word the manuscripts leave open. The weight of the chapter does not depend on this verse. It rests on 7:13-14, where the one like a son of man comes with the clouds — a mode of arrival the Hebrew Bible reserves for God — and receives from every people, nation and language group the service (pelach) that Daniel 3 and 6 established belongs to God alone. Use verse 27 for what it plainly says: the kingdom that comes out of this scene is everlasting and universal, and it is given, not seized. Compare , , .
