Daniel 6:20
Daniel 6:2020When he reached the den, he cried out in a voice of anguish, “O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?”
Used for the same lesson as the preceding verse — God delivers those who serve him faithfully, and even hostile rulers end up acknowledging it. The Watchtower reads Daniel's example as a model of unwavering devotion under a hostile state.
Darius uses the phrase a second time, which is the point worth noticing: "your God whom you are continually serving." The repetition fixes the vocabulary. Pelach is what Daniel gives God, continually, and will not give to anyone else even at the cost of his life. Daniel has now shown this twice — once in the furnace, once at the lions' pit — with the same verb both times. Then read chapter 7, where the one like a son of man comes with the clouds and every nation renders him that service for ever. If a Witness reads as the enthronement of an exalted creature, ask what the book has spent six chapters teaching about who may receive this particular kind of service. Compare , , .
