# Acts 8:35

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> Then Philip began with this very Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

## JW Usage

The Watchtower cites Philip's teaching of the eunuch as the pattern for its own Bible-study programme — an authorised representative explaining Scripture to a receptive outsider. The *content* of Philip's teaching is not usually the focus.

## Protestant Usage

The content is the whole point. "Philip opened his mouth and, starting with this Scripture, he declared to him the good news about Jesus" (NWT). Philip teaches one passage — Isaiah 53 — and the subject he teaches is not organisational submission, not end-time chronology, not a warning about the worldly system. The subject is Jesus Christ crucified for sinners, the suffering servant of Isaiah 53 revealed as the risen Lord. Philip opens the passage, declares Christ, and the eunuch is baptised on the spot. No weeks of study guides, no approval from Jerusalem, no waiting to be called back to a study group. Compare a modern Watchtower "Bible study": pre-printed questions, pre-printed answers, a member who gives a scripturally defensible answer not in the paragraph is privately counselled. Acts 8:35 sets the standard — teach the actual text, declare Christ, get out of the way.
