JWs read this verse as part of the Ethiopian eunuch narrative, generally accepted at face value. Watchtower study material on Acts 8 emphasises Philip's diligent obedience to angelic direction and the evangelistic urgency of the encounter.

Protestant Usage

This is the opening of the Ethiopian eunuch story (), the New Testament's clearest single-conversion baptism. Verse 26 sets the scene: Philip is dispatched to the Gaza road by angelic instruction. The narrative that follows will preserve every step — the conversation about Isaiah 53, the eunuch's question, Philip's response, the baptism itself — in unusual detail. The doorstep insight is that Luke chose to record this story as a representative conversion narrative; what is in it (faith in Christ, baptism) is apostolic precedent, and what is not in it (a vow to an institution, a second public question, an enrolment with a body of overseers) is also apostolic precedent. Acts 8 is one of the strongest data points for the simplicity of the apostolic baptism — and Luke's careful preservation of every detail makes the silence load-bearing.
