# Acts 3:22

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to Him in everything He tells you.

## NWT Wording of the Key Phrase

- NWT (2013 revision): "In fact, Moses said: 'Jehovah your God will raise up for you from among your brothers a prophet like me.'"

## JW Usage

JWs treat Acts 3:22 as a straightforward apostolic citation of Deuteronomy 18:15 — Moses predicted a coming prophet, and Jesus fulfilled it. They generally do not develop the implication that this closes the chapter's prophetic slot, since the Watchtower retains Deuteronomy 18:20-22 as the false-prophet test it applies to other movements while exempting itself.

## Protestant Usage

Peter, preaching at Solomon's Portico after the healing of the lame man, identifies Jesus as the singular eschatological prophet predicted in Deuteronomy 18. He is not citing Deuteronomy 18 as a generic test; he is citing it as a fulfilment claim. The hearing-or-being-cut-off warning in verse 23 attaches to Jesus, not to a class of ongoing prophetic interpreters. Paired with Acts 7:37 (Stephen) and Hebrews 1:1-2 ("in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son"), this closes the prophetic-speaking slot of Deuteronomy 18 in Christ. The doorstep move is gentle: read verses 15-19 of Deuteronomy 18 BEFORE verses 20-22 — the chapter is positively about THE prophet, and only secondarily about evaluating false ones. Once that prophet has come, no institution can occupy his speaking role.

## NWT Issue

NWT inserts "Jehovah" — "Jehovah your God will raise up for you" — where the Greek text reads kyrios ho theos ("the Lord your God"). This is part of the NWT's New Testament Tetragrammaton restoration programme. No Greek manuscript of Acts 3:22 contains the divine name; the OT quotation is from the Septuagint, which itself reads kyrios here. The doctrinal weight is real because Peter is applying Moses' prediction to Jesus, and the surrounding apostolic Christology often applies kyrios texts to Christ — the substitution can flatten the Father/Son referent in NT quotations of OT material.
