JW Usage

JWs are taught that salvation requires accurate knowledge, obedience to Jehovah's laws as interpreted by the Governing Body, association with the organisation, and loyal participation in the preaching work. — "repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus" — is not the gospel summary they are handed; the "four requirements" frame is.

Protestant Usage

is Paul's own summary of what he preached "in public and from house to house" — two things, not four. "Repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus." Repentance is the turning side of the coin where faith is the trusting side; you cannot turn toward Christ without turning away from self-reliance, and that includes reliance on organisational performance. pairs the same two ("repent and have faith in the good news"). When Paul is asked point-blank "What must I do to be saved?" in , the answer is "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved." Not "believe plus join an organisation plus attend meetings plus report hours." The apostolic gospel is simpler than the Watchtower makes it — and the NWT renders every key clause faithfully.
