Acts 2:24
Acts 2:2424But God raised Him from the dead, releasing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for Him to be held in its clutches.
The Watchtower teaches that Jehovah alone raised Jesus from the dead, and — "But God resurrected him by releasing him from the pangs of death" — fits that reading cleanly. It is typically the only resurrection-agency text JWs are asked to consider.
is one of four New Testament texts on the agency of Jesus's resurrection, and its value is that it lands on top of the other three. The verses are (the Father raised him), (Jesus raises himself — "he was talking about the temple of his body"), (the Spirit of him who raised Jesus dwells in you), and (God raised him). Four passages, all in the NWT unaltered, each naming a different agent for the one historical event. If the Father raised Jesus, and Jesus raised himself, and the Spirit raised Jesus, and God raised Jesus — and there is only one God — then the Father, the Son, and the Spirit must share the one divine identity. At the door, walk your friend through the four passages slowly, one at a time, staying on the single question "who is the agent here?" Do not rush to a conclusion. Let the pattern sit.
