# Acts 2:24

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> But God raised Him from the dead, releasing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for Him to be held in its clutches.

## JW Usage

The Watchtower teaches that Jehovah alone raised Jesus from the dead, and Acts 2:24 — "But God resurrected him by releasing him from the pangs of death" — fits that reading cleanly. It is typically the only resurrection-agency text JWs are asked to consider.

## Protestant Usage

Acts 2:24 is one of four New Testament texts on the agency of Jesus's resurrection, and its value is that it lands on top of the other three. The verses are Galatians 1:1 (the Father raised him), John 2:19-21 (Jesus raises himself — "he was talking about the temple of his body"), Romans 8:11 (the Spirit of him who raised Jesus dwells in you), and Acts 2:24 (God raised him). Four passages, all in the NWT unaltered, each naming a different agent for the one historical event. If the Father raised Jesus, and Jesus raised himself, and the Spirit raised Jesus, and God raised Jesus — and there is only one God — then the Father, the Son, and the Spirit must share the one divine identity. At the door, walk your friend through the four passages slowly, one at a time, staying on the single question "who is the agent here?" Do not rush to a conclusion. Let the pattern sit.
