# Acts 18:4

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> Every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue, trying to persuade Jews and Greeks alike.

## JW Usage

Acts 18:4 is rarely cited in JW literature. The Watchtower's case for door-to-door ministry rests on Acts 5:42 and Acts 20:20 (with a forced reading of κατ' οἶκον). The Corinthian pattern — weekly sabbath teaching in the synagogue — does not fit that template, so it quietly drops out of the picture.

## Protestant Usage

In Corinth, Paul's evangelistic method is straightforward public teaching: "he would give a talk in the synagogue every sabbath and would persuade Jews and Greeks" (NWT). No door-knocking is described. Paul speaks weekly, in a fixed public venue, to a mixed audience of Jews and Greeks who chose to be there. This is destinational ministry — seekers come, the teacher speaks, truth is reasoned. Combined with Acts 17:17 (synagogue plus marketplace), Acts 19:8 (three months in the Ephesian synagogue), and Acts 19:9 (daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus), Paul's actual pattern is clear: public, destinational, in venues where hearers gather voluntarily.
