Acts 17:11
Acts 17:1111Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.
JWs admire the Bereans in principle and the Watchtower cites to encourage diligent personal study — provided that study is done with the organisation's publications. In practice, members are taught that "examining the Scriptures" must be filtered through the faithful and discreet slave; independent Bible reading apart from Watchtower literature is presented as a doorway to apostasy.
The Bereans were called "noble" precisely for testing an apostle's teaching against Scripture — and Paul accepted that test without rebuke. If checking a genuinely inspired apostle is noble, checking the Governing Body (which the Watchtower itself describes as "neither inspired nor infallible") cannot be ignoble. The verse establishes Scripture, not any organisation, as the standard against which all teaching is measured.
