Acts 16:31
Acts 16:3131They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.”
JWs accept that "believe in the Lord Jesus" is a starting point but insist salvation is not a one-time event. Individuals must exercise faith, obey Jehovah's laws, associate with the organisation, and advocate the Kingdom through preaching. Baptism sets one on the way to everlasting life but does not guarantee it; one must endure faithfully to the end.
Paul's answer to the Philippian jailer is the apostolic gospel in its simplest form: "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved" (). The verb "believe" (pisteuson) carries the full weight of saving trust — not mere intellectual assent but personal reliance. The Watchtower adds four requirements to salvation (accurate knowledge, law-obedience, organisational association, field service); the apostolic gospel has two: repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus (). Every key gospel verse works in the NWT: (all sinned), (wages of sin vs free gift), (faith equals everlasting life), (saved by undeserved kindness through faith, not by works). The cross is not God lowering his standard — it is God meeting his own standard so he can let you go. says God is "both just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus."
