# 2 Timothy 2:2

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> And the things that you have heard me say among many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be qualified to teach others as well.

## JW Usage

2 Timothy 2:2 is a favourite Watchtower proof-text for the "channel" model: Paul entrusts teaching to Timothy, who entrusts it to faithful men, who in turn will teach others. JWs read this as a four-generation succession chain authorising an ongoing teaching office — the Governing Body today filling the Paul-role in a chain that has never been broken.

## Protestant Usage

Read the sentence carefully. "The things you have heard from me" — fixed content, already delivered. "Among many witnesses" — publicly verifiable, not private revelation. "Entrust these to faithful men" — local teachers, not a global council. "Who will be qualified to teach others as well" — the *next* generation of local teachers, not a 2,000-year institutional chain.
This is exactly the Reformed and confessional Protestant model: seminary and church training produce faithful local pastors and elders who teach the next generation of faithful local pastors and elders, all under the authority of fixed apostolic Scripture. It is not a charter for a centralised governing body that claims exclusive custody of new light nineteen centuries later. Paul tells Timothy, "what you have heard from me" — not "what the apostolic council will tell you next decade." The content is sealed. Only the teaching function continues.
