# 2 Kings 2:10

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> “You have requested a difficult thing,” said Elijah. “Nevertheless, if you see me as I am taken from you, it will be yours. But if not, then it will not be so.”

## JW Usage

Elijah tells Elisha, "If you see me when I am taken from you, it will happen for you that way; but if not, it will not happen." The Watchtower treats the "taken from you" here as a non-heavenly removal — either atmospheric or local relocation — because the Watchtower framework denies that any pre-Christian human has been bodily translated to heaven. John 3:13 ("no one has ascended into heaven") is invoked as a universal denial, and the Elijah narrative is softened accordingly.

## Protestant Usage

The Watchtower reading makes John 3:13 contradict Hebrews 11:5 within the same canon. Hebrews 11:5 in the NWT is unambiguous: "By faith Enoch was transferred so as not to see death, and he was not to be found because God had transferred him." "Did not see death" is the NWT's own wording. If Enoch were merely relocated on earth, he would have died normally — and Hebrews 11:5 would be false. So either the canon contradicts itself, or John 3:13 is not a universal historical denial.
John 3:13 is better read in context as Jesus's claim to exclusive revelatory authority. He is talking to Nicodemus about heavenly things: "no one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven — the Son of Man." The echo is Proverbs 30:4 ("Who has ascended to heaven and come down?"). It is not a historical census of past translations. On that reading, 2 Kings 2:10, 2 Kings 2:11, Genesis 5:24, and Hebrews 11:5 all fit together: God has on two exceptional occasions taken a servant bodily out of normal death. Enoch did not die. Elijah went up in a whirlwind. The Watchtower's atmospheric reading preserves the wrong harmony — it saves John 3:13 at the cost of Hebrews 11:5.
