1 Timothy 3:15
1 Timothy 3:1515in case I am delayed, so that you will know how each one must conduct himself in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
JWs cite — the congregation as "a pillar and support of the truth" — to argue that a visible organisational structure is biblically necessary. Since the Watchtower understands itself as the only true congregation, the verse becomes warrant for the Governing Body's interpretive monopoly. If the church upholds truth, and the Watchtower is the church, then the Watchtower's teaching is authoritative.
The NWT itself translates it "a pillar" — not "the pillar." Paul was writing to one person (Timothy) about one specific congregation (Ephesus) with qualifications for local overseers. A pillar upholds something; it does not generate it. Paul names no city, no century, no headquarters, and no continuing council. The irreducible question is: "Where in the Bible does God name the channel?" Not describe or allude — name it. The Bible names David, Moses, Peter, James, Paul. If the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society — founded in 1881 in Pittsburgh — is biblically required as God's channel, the Bible must name it. It does not. Biblical necessity requires biblical identification. A pillar that refuses to be tested against the truth it claims to uphold is upholding itself, not the truth — and shows that even apostolic teaching was tested against Scripture.
