1 Timothy 3:14

1 Timothy 3:14
14Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these things

is almost never quoted in Watchtower literature on its own — it is the setup sentence before the "pillar and support of the truth" line in verse 15, which is one of the organisation's strongest-feeling proof texts for itself. The context of 3:14 ("these things I am writing you, though hoping to come to you shortly") is routinely elided when 3:15 is cited.

Protestant Usage

Always read 3:14 before 3:15. The sentence tells you exactly what kind of letter Paul is writing: a personal pastoral note from one man to another, anchored in a specific city (Ephesus) and a specific local congregation, with the immediate aim of instructing Timothy "how you should conduct yourself in the household of God." Once 3:14 sets the frame, 3:15's "pillar and support of the truth" (the NWT's own rendering uses the indefinite "a pillar") cannot be lifted out and applied to a global institution headquartered in Warwick. Paul is not naming a city, a century, or a continuing council. He is telling Timothy how a local overseer should behave. Use 3:14 as the anchor verse — it is the single most under-used verse in the whole pillar-of-truth conversation.
