1 Samuel 3:21
1 Samuel 3:2121And the LORD continued to appear at Shiloh, because there He revealed Himself to Samuel by His word.
The verse's equation of Jehovah's self-revelation with "the word of Jehovah" is passed over lightly in Watchtower literature. The "word of Jehovah" is treated as a message-idiom — a way of saying Jehovah spoke — without examining the way just described Jehovah visibly standing and calling. Equating the visible Lord who stood with "the word of the Lord" would open a direct line to 's Logos Christology, which is incompatible with the Watchtower's created-Son doctrine.
Read and 3:21 together. Verse 10: Jehovah comes and stands and calls. Verse 21: "Jehovah continued to appear in Shiloh, for Jehovah revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of Jehovah." The word of Jehovah is not a message delivered from a distance; it is the modality of Jehovah's own visible self-disclosure in Shiloh. Link the pattern with (the word of the Lord comes to Abraham in a vision, speaks in first-person as Yahweh, and says "I am the Lord who brought you out of Ur") and (the word of the Lord puts out his hand and touches Jeremiah's mouth). A hand. A visible appearance. First-person Yahweh-identification. These are not messages; they are descriptions of a person. ,14 names the person: "the Word was God ... the Word became flesh." The Old Testament Word of the Lord is the same Logos John names in the prologue, and that Logos is Jesus. Do not overload the conversation with every Christophany at once — Genesis 15 is the cleanest first pass. Use as the second witness after the JW has sat with Genesis 15.
