1 Kings 18:21

OT History

21Then Elijah approached all the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him. But if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people did not answer a word.

JW Usage

("how long will you be limping between two different opinions? If Jehovah is the true God, follow him!") is frequently cited by Jehovah's Witnesses at the door as a decisional crunch point — a call to abandon nominal Christianity and commit to Jehovah as Elijah's hearers were called to commit against Baal. The verse anchors the broader "which side are you on" framing without always asking whether the Watchtower itself passes the Deuteronomy 18 and Deuteronomy 13 prophet tests that authenticate who speaks for Jehovah.

Protestant Usage

Receive the verse seriously — Elijah's binary is a real biblical challenge, and Christians should not shrink from it. Then extend it. Elijah was credentialed by the same standard he pressed on his hearers: ("if what the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah does not occur or come true, that is a word that Jehovah did not speak") and (even if signs occur, reject a prophet who leads to a different god). The Watchtower's record — 1914, 1925, "this generation" changed multiple times, the 2012 faithful-slave reversal, and the Christology that refuses to call Jesus "the true God" where ends — measures against both tests. Do not drop ; complete it. Elijah asked "is Jehovah God?" and insisted the proof be visible. Ask your JW friend to apply Elijah's standard to the Watchtower's prophetic record as well. The binary cuts both ways.
