JW Usage

The Watchtower affirms that Christ died for sins and was raised, but embeds this truth inside a much larger system — baptism into the organisation, publisher activity, loyalty to the Governing Body, and survival-dependent perseverance come before the gospel actually accomplishes anything for a seeker. The "first of all" (prōton) that Paul identifies — the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ — is in JW practice preceded by months of Bible study focused on organisation-specific doctrines, so that "what I received and what I am passing on" ends up meaning something much broader than what Paul handed to the Corinthians.

Protestant Usage

Paul lists as "of first importance" (prōton): Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, he was buried, and he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. Three facts. That is the deposit. The doorstep implication is direct: if the gospel is these three, what gets said at a first conversation should be these three — not the 144,000, the organisation, or Armageddon survival. Use this to sharpen the doctrinal-concealment conversation: "Paul says he handed you what is of first importance. If the first thing isn't the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus for sins — what is? And would Paul have approved of the curriculum that introduces the hard teachings only after weeks of study?"
