# 1 Corinthians 15:24

## Text (Berean Standard Bible)

> Then the end will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority, and power.

## JW Usage

JWs cite 1 Corinthians 15:24 — "he hands over the Kingdom to his God and Father" — as proof that Jesus is permanently subordinate to Jehovah. If Jesus must hand back the kingdom, he cannot be equal to God. The verse is read alongside 15:28 to argue that the Son's subjection to the Father is an eternal ontological reality, not a temporary functional arrangement.

## Protestant Usage

The very act of handing a kingdom to God demonstrates an authority that no mere creature possesses. The doorstep question is sharp: "Who has the authority to hand a kingdom TO God?" The passage describes the completion of Christ's mediatorial kingdom — the consummation of the redemptive mission — not an ontological statement about inferior nature. Christ is already reigning now (Acts 2:30, Ephesians 1:20-22, Matthew 28:18), and 1 Corinthians 15:24 describes the moment when that reign reaches its goal and the redeemed creation is presented to the Father. Paul's need to explicitly exclude the Father from those subjected to the Son (v. 27, "it is evident that this does not include the One who subjected all things to him") reveals just how comprehensive the Son's authority truly is — the exception had to be stated because the scope would otherwise include God himself.
