1 Corinthians 12:7
1 Corinthians 12:77Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
The Watchtower cites 12:7 affirming that the Spirit is given to Christians — but the "each one" who receives manifestation is restricted implicitly to the 144,000 anointed in the JW framework. The great crowd's access to the Spirit is mediated primarily through the organisation's instructional channels rather than as a personal indwelling. The verse is thus quietly narrowed from its plain "each one" scope.
Paul's "each one" is unrestricted — every member of the Corinthian body. This verse is part of the case against the Watchtower's "channel of communication" claim: the Spirit is given to every believer directly, not mediated through a central body. Pair with ("the anointing teaches you about all things"), ("if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his"), and (the Spirit poured out on "all flesh"). At the door: "If the Spirit is given to each one of God's people, what is the Governing Body adding to what the Spirit already gives directly? Paul's 'each one' cannot mean 'only the eight in Warwick.'"
