# Use Their Own Bible — The NWT as Evangelism Tool

This is a meta-playbook for Christian strategy — not a JW pattern we
counter. The core principle: every effective doorstep argument for
Jehovah's Witnesses should be winnable in the JW's own New World
Translation. When a JW hears a truth from their own Bible, they cannot
dismiss it as "your translation" or "apostate material." The argument
becomes internal to their own source, and the cognitive dissonance
does its work without any imported authority.

Why this works. The average JW has been trained to treat non-Watchtower
material — tracts, commentaries, outside Bibles — as apostate
influence. Produce an ESV or KJV at the door and the shutter comes down
before you finish the verse. But the NWT is their Bible. They cannot
reject it without rejecting their own organisation's translation. When
the truth of Jesus' deity, the gospel of grace, or the reality of hell
is shown IN the NWT itself, the argument has nowhere to go except
inward. This is why the most effective arguments in this handbook are
the ones where the NWT's own rendering, footnotes, or Kingdom
Interlinear gloss quietly betrays Watchtower doctrine.

Where to find the NWT at the door.

1. wol.jw.org — the Watchtower's own online library. Search any verse
and the NWT rendering comes up first, followed by Watchtower
   publications that comment on it.
2. jw.org/en/library/bible — the plain-text NWT, searchable by book
   and verse.
3. Any JW's cell phone — most active Witnesses carry the JW Library
app. If they offer to show you something, the NWT is already in
   their hand.
4. The Kingdom Interlinear Translation — the Watchtower's own
Greek-English interlinear of the New Testament. Physical copies are
~$30-40 online and carry enormous credibility because they are
published by the Watchtower itself. The KIT is the single most
effective evangelism tool with an educated JW — it lets you point
to the Greek text and the English gloss side-by-side, and when the
English gloss reads differently from the NWT main text, the JW sees
   the difference in Watchtower print.

The three strongest NWT-internal arguments in this handbook.

1. Alpha and Omega chain (argument 014) — Isaiah 44:6 in the NWT calls
Jehovah "the first and the last." Revelation 1:17, 2:8, 22:13 in
the NWT apply the same phrase to Jesus. The NWT itself attributes
the exclusive Jehovah-title to Christ. No imported translation is
   needed.
2. Trinitarian resurrection (argument 117) — Four NWT passages name
four agents of Jesus's resurrection: the Father (Galatians 1:1),
Jesus himself (John 2:19-21), the Spirit (Romans 8:11), and God
(Acts 2:24). The four-agent pattern emerges in the NWT text
   without altering a word.
3. Colossians 1 "other" (argument 005) — The Watchtower's own Kingdom
Interlinear shows the Greek text of Colossians 1:16-17 with no
word "other." The NWT main text inserts "other" four times in
brackets. The KIT proves in Watchtower print that the insertion is
   not in the manuscripts.

When the JW pushes back. Sometimes a JW will say "the NWT is more
accurate — other translations are corrupted" or "that verse is
rendered differently in the original Greek." Two responses. First,
the NWT is all we are using. The argument stands or falls on their
own text. Second, if they appeal to the Greek, offer to walk through
the KIT together — the Watchtower's own interlinear. Few JWs have
studied Greek, and appealing to Greek while refusing to open the
Watchtower's own Greek-English volume collapses the move. The
doorstep conversation stays inside Watchtower-published sources.

What this playbook is NOT. It is not an excuse to treat the NWT as
a good translation on its merits — the NWT adds words ("other" in
Colossians 1), removes words (the divine name from John 8:58
indirectly), and carries known Watchtower theological bias
throughout. The strategy is persuasive precisely because the NWT is
loaded AGAINST the Protestant reading, and yet the Protestant
reading still wins inside it. If the argument still lands in the
NWT, it would land more easily in a faithful translation — but the
JW does not need to trust a faithful translation for the argument
to work. This is the whole point.

## Opening Question

> "Before you knock on a JW's door, ask yourself — can I make every point I want to make from their New World Translation? If the answer is no, either pick a different point or study the NWT rendering of the verse you want to use. Carry a KIT if you can. Keep wol.jw.org open on your phone. When the JW says "our translation is accurate," smile and say "good — let's use yours then.""

## Expected JW Responses

### Response 1

**JW says:** "Our translation, the NWT, is more accurate than other Bibles."

**Observation:** Wonderful — that's the one we will be using. Every passage I want to show you comes from your own NWT. You do not have to trust my Bible, my commentary, or my interpretation. Just open the NWT and read with me.

### Response 2

**JW says:** "That's a mistranslation — the Greek actually says something different."

**Observation:** Let us look at it together in the Kingdom Interlinear Translation — the Watchtower's own Greek-English volume. If the KIT gloss differs from the NWT main text, what should we say? If the KIT agrees with the NWT, I will retract the point. Fair? Most JWs have never opened the KIT. The offer reframes the conversation back into Watchtower-published sources.

### Response 3

**JW says:** "You're just using the Bible in English — the original was in Greek and Hebrew."

**Observation:** Agreed — and the NWT is a translation the Watchtower produced from that Greek and Hebrew. If the Watchtower's translators are faithful, the English NWT accurately reflects the original. Let us use their translation as the arbiter. Anything stronger than that requires the KIT — which we can also consult together.

### Response 4

**JW says:** "I'll have to ask an elder or look this up before we continue."

**Observation:** That is a sincere and appropriate response — and not an exit-scripted deferral unless it is. Offer to show the passage now and email or message the reference afterwards. If you sense the elder-consult is a polite disengagement, see the jw-disengagement-tactics playbook.

## Follow-Up

After every conversation, write down the NWT verses you actually
used. Note which ones landed. Over time you will develop a three-
to five-verse repertoire you can walk through from memory in any
doorstep encounter — all from the JW's own Bible. The short
repertoire is better than the long one. Depth over breadth.
