The New World Translation Is the Most Accurate Bible
Watchtower Teaching
JWs claim that the New World Translation (NWT) is the most accurate and faithful rendering of the original Hebrew and Greek texts, produced by an anonymous committee of scholars. In practice, the NWT systematically alters key passages to align with Watchtower theology — inserting 'Jehovah' 237 times into the New Testament without manuscript support, rendering as 'a god,' changing 'cross' to 'torture stake,' and replacing 'Holy Spirit' constructions to avoid implying personhood.
Why This Matters
If the NWT is the most accurate Bible, its translators should be credentialed and identifiable — yet the Watchtower has never disclosed who served on the translation committee. Former Governing Body member Raymond Franz identified the members; none held advanced degrees in Biblical Greek or Hebrew. The 237 insertions of 'Jehovah' in the New Testament rely on 'J-references' — back- translations into Hebrew made centuries after the original Greek manuscripts, which universally read Kyrios (Lord). The NWT's rendering of c as 'the Word was a god' is rejected by virtually every recognised Greek scholar, including those the Watchtower has selectively quoted.
