Truth Changes — 'The Light Gets Brighter'

Watchtower Teaching

JWs teach that doctrinal understanding progressively improves over time, based on : 'the path of the righteous is like the bright morning light that grows brighter and brighter.' This 'new light' principle is used to justify complete reversals of doctrine — organ transplants forbidden then allowed, the 'generation' teaching changed multiple times, the identity of the 'faithful and discreet slave' redefined in 2012. Members must accept each new teaching immediately and without question, even if it contradicts what was previously taught as divine truth.

Why This Matters

is about moral conduct — the 'path of the righteous' contrasted with the 'way of the wicked' in verse 19. It is not about doctrinal evolution. Light getting brighter means you see more clearly what was always there — it does not mean what you saw yesterday was wrong. A lighthouse that keeps changing direction is not getting brighter; it is malfunctioning. The Watchtower's reversals are not refinements — they are contradictions: blood fractions banned then allowed, the four main blood components forbidden for decades then left to conscience in 2026, organ transplants called 'cannibalism' then permitted, the 'generation' of 1914 redefined from people alive in 1914, to anointed alive in 1914, to overlapping generations. provides the actual biblical test: a prophet who speaks presumptuously in God's name and the thing does not come true — that prophet has spoken presumptuously.
