The Governing Body Is God's Sole Channel of Communication
JWs teach that the Governing Body — a small group of men at the Watchtower's headquarters — is the 'faithful and discreet slave' of , appointed by Christ in 1919 to dispense all spiritual food. Witnesses must accept their teachings without question, even when they do not fully understand the reasoning. Independent Bible study apart from Watchtower publications is explicitly discouraged. Disagreeing with the Governing Body is treated as apostasy, punishable by disfellowshipping.
If the Governing Body is God's sole channel, then the Bible alone is insufficient — a claim that contradicts , which says Scripture makes the believer 'complete, equipped for every good work.' The Bereans were commended for checking Paul's teaching against Scripture (), yet JWs are discouraged from doing the same with the Governing Body. The claim also fails historically: the Watchtower has reversed major doctrines — organ transplants, alternative military service, the 'generation' teaching, the identity of the faithful slave itself — proving that this 'channel' regularly transmits error. A sole channel that consistently errs is no channel at all.
